Most people consider this desk a toy for people with too much money, but the real target is people with physical disabilities or limitations. I have spinal column deterioration and got the AltWork desk three years ago. Previously I would spend my days in moderate discomfort moving from desk to couch to kitchen every hour trying to find comfort. With the AltWork desk I'm able to work a full day with almost no pain. It looks strange, it takes up a lot of space, and it limits how you can setup your computers (heavy bias towards laptops). I couldn't imagine working without it now.
I'm reminded of Wall-E, with the ship full of people who never leave their chairs.
Why my brain can't focus when I'm horizontal? Anybody else feels the same?
After getting my body used to mostly standing up while working, I now start yawning and nearly fall asleep every time I even sit down during the day.
Sitting meetings remain a bit of a problem...
It would be even better if I don’t need to raise my hands up to type things or use the mouse. I would imagine having your hands up like that to type things is gonna make your arms sour really quick.
That was exactly what i was thinking when looking at the picture!
the desk is very adjustable for table height and angle. if you adjust it to a position where your arms are at a 90 degree bend of the elbow then there is no pressure on your hands/wrists while you type. No discomfort at all.
I will check that next time i am at my dentist.
I've got an rei quarter dome tent that I can hang my laptop at the top and use external mouse and keyboard on the ground. It's not perfect but pretty nice for computing horizontally.
Looks nice and I see the value. For those more budget oriented, curious how easy it would be to replicate this with a recliner, weighted stand and monitor arm.
Seeing the video of it in motion, it's beautiful, and definitely a step in the right direction for greater human comfort and productivity.
Have you seen Matrix? Embedded in a fish-tank would be much better and prevents pressure-points, that's why keanu reeves looks like newborn after waking up.
$100 over bed table works just as well.
The keyboard and apple mice is obviously glued on.
According to the article, they use magnets to keep them in place.
That's correct. Rare earth magnets with double sided tape keep the keyboard in place. The mouse pad is magnetic and the edges are metallic to attract a magnet attached to the mouse which anchors it and keeps it from falling. Instead, I use a trackpad which I find more comfortable.
I suppose a mounted track ball could also work for some.
