You can install pi-hole and have your apple tv, you wife's phone and kids tablets sorted out.

Chromecast has hardcoded google DNS but it only adds bit of complication, you can do it, internet is your friend.

Yeah except youtube ads cannot be DNS blocked and require something running on the device like ublock origin. From the pi-hole FAQ:
