This is far too dramatic. What's actually happening is that we simply no longer give _unattributed_ audio and video the benefit of the doubt. Data pedigree and attribution will become more important, but we're already in a place where real media is routinely misrepresented by bad actors (as a lot of purported Ukraine war footage has shown), and this will simply make us more skeptical still.

I did pitch a PhD study area on this[0] before deciding I didn't want to do a PhD or get into crypto. But I do think signing media and signed attribution chains will become more important ... but I don't see much need for it to be distributed. I (along with a huge number of other people) already sign documents digitally using a 3rd party service

I know what you both meant, just playing with words, sorry. I just hope now that the dust has settled, we can go back to the world where "crypto" meant "cryptography", not anything else[1]
