Otherwise quite interesting, pretty much confirms much of my suspicions based on my ignoring dates on the condiments unless they look/smell funny.

I read it as "Because almost all the printed dates are invalid, it's better to use these dates instead: bread: weeks, beans: years, etc.," and I find that more a complementary fit.
