Banks Plan Payment Wallet to Compete with PayPal, Apple Pay

Is this like the Dutch iDeal or Canadian Interac or is this full-blown copycat?

Edit: reading this, it's in the middle - there's still Visa and Mastercard (and possibly Discover if they also agreed) in the loop rather than a separate interbanking network.

I thought they tried this back when Apple Pay was just getting started, and they utterly failed to make it a success. Some silly-ass QR code thing that was less convenient than using one’s credit card.
