The Gaucho Western

I don't know anything about it, but I've been listening to some gaucho music on YouTube. Renato Borghetti's music seems like a good place to start:
When most people think "gaucho" they think Argentina, and sometimes Uruguay.
What they don't realise is that the pampas, the grasslands where the gaucho is a native of, also span a large area of southern Brazil. In fact, the gentilic of the people of Rio Grande do Sul (the southernmost state in the country) is "gaúcho(a)".
Renato Borghetti is gaúcho, and he is indeed a good starting point. There are so many cultural similarities between these 3 regions that in other parts of Brazil a lot of people have this idea that gaúchos are in fact closer to those neighbours than they are to Brazil (whatever that might mean). In some ways they are probably right.
Gaúchos say "tchê" (the Portuguese spelling of "che"), drink chimarrão (AKA mate ), play a stronger style of football, incorporate many words and expressions from the neighbours and make the best barbecues.
Reminds me of another movie, Down Argentine Way (1940), which literally opens with Carmen Miranda doing a stereotypical "South American" song and dance which angered Argentine audiences of the time so much that the movie got banned. From Wikipedia [1]:
> However, the film was banned in Argentina after being "hissed off the screens" by audiences there for misrepresenting the real culture of the country, wrongly including many Mexican and Caribbean mannerisms and costumes, as if they were part of the Argentine landscape.
Reading OP's article it seems the Argentine government around that time was all too keen on banning films though.
Nonetheless Down Argentine Way was selected for the US National Film Registry [2].
