Tell HN: I was able to select and copy text from a photo

The feature is called “live text” and has a couple of different features. Copy text from photos, videos, and using the camera app. Pretty nice.

It's pretty powerful, it even solves old captchas :) Technical details (and a fun project):

Did you also know you can search your photos by typing in something that is found in the photo? I use this at work all the time for "whiteboard" for instance. All of this stuff is done using on-device intelligence.

Although I have become a bit weary of Apple's marketing speak, when I discovered this feature it really did feel like magic.

yeah, I've always wondered how hard it would be to use OCR to read text from photos and why no one had done it before. Now Apple has gone ahead and implemented it.

Press the arrow and there are other options like Translate.
