This article is framed as if this is a new trend. My cities police department has been handing out steering wheel locks to Kia and Hyundai owners since last summer.
>The trend, amplified in instructional videos on TikTok and other social media sites, is not new, but law enforcement officials say they are seeing an uptick in thefts.
My read is that a USB connector fits nicely on the ignition tab, after the column is ripped open and the keylock removed.
I think it's worth pointing out that this only happens in the US because in most other countries regulations mandate immobilisers (the car can't move unless the keys are in the ignition/present). Is there any reason why this isn't a thing in the US?
don't even know why key ignition is still a thing. push button is more complex, but is basically commoditized, while being easier and more secure.
