I remember bouncing off OS/2 when IBM was still pushing it. The installer had a whitelist entry for my brand of CDROM drive, but with "4x" in the string; my hardware had "8x" and so it didn't want to install.
Great example of "Walk the extra mile to shoot yourself in the foot" thinking there.
