The Most Efficient Car Ever Created? Mercedes EQXX [video]

3788 miles per gallon. 1610 km/L for the sane folks.
* it can't have covered wheels (apparently the Gen 1 Honda Insight is not a car)
* it can't be too small (apparently the Smart car is not a car)
* it doesn't matter if it's defective due to a lack of active cooling (a battery defect which forced Nissan into a settlement with Leaf owners[1])
A weird definition IMO, but there it is.
> it can't have covered wheels (apparently the Gen 1 Honda Insight is not a car)
Yes, it doesn't look good and precludes rear wheel steering.
> it can't be too small (apparently the Smart car is not a car)
Yes, need to fit people in it.
> it doesn't matter if it's defective due to a lack of active cooling
You're presupposing new battery chemistries will require active cooling. These aluminium-ion batteries, for example, don't mind getting hot:

The main point of the EQXX is this is what you can achieve in a Mercedes with a 100 kWh battery. It's pretty good.
Speak for yourself. I think it looks gorgeous!
Besides, it's nothing a little marketing (and cultural drift) can't fix. The Model X looked weird to people at first without a 'fake' grill, but now the opposite is true.
Mostly "I know what I like when I see it" just translates to "I like what I've seen many times before."

> precludes rear wheel steering
Speaking of "commercial realities," that's not an issue for the vast majority of vehicles.
> need to fit people in it
Amusing, but obviously exaggerated.
People still fit in small cars. It's obvious that all people don't fit in all cars (even this one).
> You're presupposing new battery chemistries will require active cooling
So apparently, what you really meant to say is "what you can achieve if I assume future battery technology."
This is quite the about-face from your earlier position.
Here's your homework: show me the four door, four seater econobox that achieves the same levels of efficiency and range as the EQXX.
Mercedes has thought this through more clearly than you have.
