It might not be realistic to expect better behavior from the media, given the structures they work in and the pressures of society.

However, that's a different thing. Being "the best you can reasonably be" doesn't mean you're actually "good". "Good" may not be obtainable. Ignoring the flaws and redefining "good" down to "achievable" is still the wrong approach.
