I can't say I know much about ships or naval life, but those berths look so small and uncomfortable with a lot of places for your arms to get caught or places to bump your funnybone off of. And those lockers look so skinny! Do you just hang one hanger in there with one pair of clothes on it?
We go by Sea Shadow between Jack London Square and alameda pretty regularly. They've always got some boat in there, either a mega pleasure yacht or a WETA ferry for the SF Bay area, or whatever. It's a big, floating dry dock. Cool and in plain view, always in revenue use.
Sea shadow doesn't exist anymore, it's been dismantled, but I think you mean you go past the barge?
