I think Go is more verbose than Java

Go is sufficiently verbose that I don’t want to use it, even with an IDE… perhaps CodePilot might make it tolerable but I’ve made a habit of considering Go “other peoples problem” as best as possible.

That’s not to say I can’t work with it, was able to fix a go program after just a basic reading of the syntax … but beyond “this is readable” I have little to love and plenty to hate. And the level of verbosity I see in other peoples Go code is one of the things I hate. Sure they can probably be more concise sometimes, but it does seem like a trend to me that Go programmers don’t bother thinking about that sort of thing, they write the verbose code quickly because the language is designed to limit the user this way to “help” make coding things easier… and they move on. To me, the verbose nature is completely explained by the motivation behind the original design of the entire Language to be a sort of lowest common denominator language that all the new hires at Google could quickly learn regardless of the languages they knew when they were hired be that from decades of experience or fresh from an academic PhD. Lowest common denominator language leads to lowest common denominator code… which tends to be verbose because you’re not thinking about concise expressions using a language designed to avoid concise expression to avoid clever syntax that makes it hard to learn.

Much of the Go code posted here could be simplified into a more idiomatic, easier-to-read form. I'd honestly recommend the Ardan Labs training for Go as a refresher - then come back to rework the example code.
