Nothing says "informal" like having an entire brigade of a third nation's military play doorman for your party while you discuss the implementation of radical extra-legislative policies on an unwilling populace.
That's one of the most off-putting parts of the whole operation. It's overtly undermining the direction of the electorate.
Isn't this the crux of the issue? There are charitable and uncharitable assessments of the "public" at large regarding these matters, one of which is q.e.d. as to why these gatherings are required. Your thoughts?

These are both self feeding machines. Protestors go to Davos because they get media coverage. WEF, while not directly supporting protestors, also benefits from the coverage of protests because it keeps an otherwise unnecessary forum in the news.
I guarantee that this is a minority opinion when it comes to Davos.
If our states and institutions are to function effectively in the world, they need to develop both strength and empathy, and the largely transient and cosmetic injuries they may incur at the playground are just part of growing up. Agitation and childish misery can be dispelled with brief acknowledgement of the injury and the assurance that the injured part will grow back.
