Many folks think of the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event (the dinosaurs 65-66 mya) as this shocking cataclysmic event where a comet hit the earth and the dinosaurs were blown away in a nuclear-blast like shock-wave. At 11:59am dinosaurs where there and by 12:00pm they were gone! poof - like that!
While that was obviously true for some individuals in the immediate blast area, most other species around the globe probably took days, months, years, or even more to fully disappear at a species level. They weren't blown to bits in a nuclear fireball, but died over time as ecosystems and food-chains collapsed due to climate change. That's what we're experiencing now.
Edit: Spelling
Which is birds singing loudly in the night. Been out walking at about 2:00 AM last night. Loudest I've noticed so far, not localised in some spot, all along the way for several kilometers. No matter the cause/why, that has to stress them out in some way if this goes on.
