HN meetup in Seattle next week

19 pointsmwerty35 comments

After meeting a couple of hn folks locally and being blown away by their awesomeness, I figured it would be fun to meet up with more local Seattle hn people over beer and food.

Agenda: drink beer, eat food and geek out (optional).

I'm not sure what the best time/place for everyone is, so I've set up a poll - just vote for all the ones you can make and we'll go with the one with the maximum votes.

Please suggest bars in comments.

Hope you can make it!

Final date/time: Tuesday (10/28/2008) evening @7:30 pm @ University Zoka.

Address: 2901 NE Blakeley Street, Seattle, WA 98105

Let's meet near the fireplace area. Watch this thread for updates/changes.

Wish I could be there ... can we do this once a month?

sorry, didn't see this until just now - hope to join you for the next one.

Doh! Wish I had heard about this earlier... I have plans tonight, but I live right near there, so if you do one again I'll definitely try to make it over.

Seconded. More advance notice would be nice (although I'm not sure I would have moved my massage to accommodate it in any event).

You both saw the note on the front page this weekend, yes?

No?

I wish I had seen the post earlier. I'll definitely come to the next one.

Say hi to the Delicious Monster guys. They work out of Zoka. (http://www.delicious-monster.com/blog/2005/02/delicious-mons...)

Does anyone have parking advice for an eastsider making the trip?

Yeah, just park in the neighborhood in front. You might have to walk a block or two but it's easy and free.

Whew. Almost forgot about this one. I'll be there

Just for the record, the map is showing directions to the Greenlake Zoka, not University.

Yes, U Zoka is the right one.

That one may or may not have bit me, as well. :)

Please don't use the google maps link.

2901 NE Blakeley Street, Seattle, WA 98105 is the right address.

mwerty and I are here. See you soon.

I'm really sorry about the screwup with the google maps link. A few of us did meet and I had a good time. Please feel free to send out another invite say next month.

1. East->West traffic is horrible around 7pm. West->East is much better. Fewer geek-hours spent in traffic when meeting on eastside.

2. Parking on east side is usually less of a problem

Eastside coffee option:

http://www.kahilicoffee.com/default.htm on the main drag in Kirkland, decent size and not jam packed like the Rose Hill (85th & 122nd) Starbucks. Decent supply of syrups, and I believe the coffee is good, as well (I'm a hot chocolate person, which they do well)

There are several decent options up in Bothell by the UW Eastside campus, as well, but that's pretty far north.

I'd like to come, but I'm under drinking age I couldn't do it in a bar proper.

I'd love to come, but I'm in the same boat- if only by a smidge.

Possible to meet at a coffee shop instead?

Good suggestion. I'm of age, but don't plan on drinking. If we can get some more hackers & be more inclusive, I think it'd be worth it to try something like a coffee shop instead.

I'd be up for that for sure.

Coffeeshop it is... any suggestions?

Zoka in the U District is nice and big, has free wifi and it's pretty easy to park around there, there's free parking on the neighborhood streets. Plus it's where Wil Shipley goes (went?) to write Delicious Library :)

Sounds perfect- hard to beat free parking and free wifi.

Bauhaus on Cap Hill is pretty great, although a resto-bar would also solve the problems of having minors not being able to attend while letting some of us sip a cool beer.

Same here

i highly recommend http://www.hopsandchops.com/.

thursday evenings @ linda's, great group of smart engs & entrepreneurs.

i had a great time this week.

Thanks for the shoutout, Arjun. Whether it's an official HN meetup or not, definitely come by Hops & Chops. We're at Linda's on capitol hill every week (same place, same time), and there's always old & new faces to hang out with.

It is at a bar though, so 21+.

Sounds fun. I might even come up from Oregon depending on the day.

Sooooo ... has a date/time/loc been set? Isn't there some YC startup that will let us plan this?

Bah, just the week I'm out of town.

We'll get you next time. :)
