Apple Music Sing: Is this the dream karaoke machine?

This is such an odd review.

The set up is a bunch of tenuous circumstances about not being able to get exactly the right kind of karoke experience at a karoke bar. Followed by an evening of technical glitches that seem entirely created by the author.

Contrary to the set up, I don't think this is pitched at luring karoke enthusiasts from bars and singalongs. Rather I think it's aimed more generally as a way to further differentiate the service by providing a logical extension to the lyrics feature which also seems to have received an update.

Seems like a great way to learn/practice songs. I'd love to learn a few that I could perform on stage with a band I know. I wonder if anyone has developed an app that could take a recording of my voice and identify the songs where my range is most suited to success. I can really nail some vocals (like Merle Haggard) but fail with many others where I don't have the range/practice.

We subscribe to and use and love Smule as a family (https://www.smule.com/). We also subscribe to Apple One as a family, so saving the Smule cost is possibly a nice bonus on the next renewal if Apple's product can come closer. Smule offers a great network and user-generated assets, which has some stickiness. (Similar to Spotify which offers a network, which Apple Music seems to lack a good version of.) I feel bad for Smule, as I can see the huge gorilla of a competitor they now have. I was secretly hoping Smule would be acquired by Apple.

This is interesting because I recently bought an Apple TV and noticed that the Spotify app on Apple TV does NOT support on-screen lyrics (which the Spotify app on FireTV does support)

Wonder if it's related? Could Apple have blocked Spotify from adding on-screen lyrics?

I think the thing with lyrics isn't about Airplay. Some songs have the information and some don't, is all

Seems like this is more a review of airplay on an outdated Apple TV and whatever Wi-Fi that person had in their home than an Apple Music sing review.
