Ask HN: Learning Networks?

I’ve always been fascinated by networking and want to see if there is an angle I can shift my career into.

I’ve done networking on AWS, VPCs, subnets, AWS cert type stuff. Recently I’ve been automating my homelab and having fun with iptables and Docker networks. I’ve played a little bit with some low level TCP handshake stuff, but curious where I go from here? I was reading this dense 1000 page networking book a bit in the beginning to more deeply understand the math for CIDR blocks and IP addressing, but it was a lot to tackle for a beginner networking nerd.

FWIW I’m a senior SWE at big tech company, but these days, you don’t do much low level packet stuff!
