Tesla will have an admirable place in automotive history. It will be for many things other than “self driving”.

There's no guardrail by the Bunker Pt turnoff and a steep slope before the cliff goes vertical and possibly the software applied braking. The large pebbles at the landing spot may have spread out the deceleration.

What a piece of shit. If you want to die, commit suicide, don't decide for your family whether they get to live.

Sadly, when people reach a point of mental exception that they see no alternatives to killing the selves, they sometimes equally do not recognize the value of others who would be affected.

Honestly in programming terms, it is an unhandled exception with severe consequences.

There is some interesting theories behind this:

In this typology, the anomic (amoral) killer sees his family purely as a status symbol; when his economic status collapses, he sees them as surplus to requirements. The disappointed killer seeks to punish the family for not living up to his ideals of family life. The self-righteous killer destroys the family to exact revenge upon the mother, in an act that he blames on her. Finally, the paranoid killer kills their family in what they imagine to be an attempt to protect them from something even worse.

Why did this even turn into a murder charge? This angle is not covered at all, is this insane media stirring?

When the authorities decided that the exit from the road was intentional.

That stretch of road is super popular for suicide attempts, feels like it happens once a month.

>Why did this even turn into a murder charge

You're shocked at the murder charge, and not tesla doung everything it can to paint itself in a better light than it deserves?
