AI has reached a point where aesthetics and technique are no longer hurdles. You can literally prompt gibberish and get back a highly aesthetic image that is completely boring and irrelevant.

So, the challenge is still to dig deep and make something interesting and relevant. The hurdles are removed. The gates are wide open. You can make anything. So… what will you actually make?

Technicality was everything in painting before the advent of the photograph.

The Impressionists came after photography, and in fact Impressionism was something of a reaction to its development. "Since we have the camera to do realistic images now, we should concentrate on other things.", more or less.

For centuries. Everything you just said about abstract art encompasses the entire reason it was important and prompted backlash that continues to this day.
