I guess the answer to my question is that if more people migrate to Mastodon it supports the development of a tool of great use to CSAM, and until recently of primary use by CSAM-affiliated individuals.
Government intervention is probably the best means of preventing this use of Mastodon. Unlike distributed cryptocurrencies it should be much easier to shut down Mastodon instances promoting illegal acts than it would be to prevent the promotion of illegal acts via crypto.
As an aside I'm somewhat weirded out by the images the linked site chooses for many of their articles.
