Why? A turning point would actually be positively standing up for academic freedom when it is threatened. Until that happens, it's just an empty statement

It’s not a turning point until the university administration signs off. Faculty have generally not supported limiting academic freedom, instead it has come from administration and certain student activists.

A turning point requires a real fight that ends in the defeat of the administrators/managers/"woke" class, such as an agreement to limit powers of the University administration or the ousting of an unusually vocal supporter of these new "safety"-oriented policies.

What does "woke" mean?

Ron DeSantis lawyers (so not people likely to give it a positive spin) define it as "The belief there are systemic injustices in American society and the need to address them."

Woke is a term used by white people that was culturally appropriated from AAVE.

He predicted that the policy he quit because of would be reversed and he would be back at the time he quit, the policy was reversed quite quickly, and he was back.

Seems…routine.

the real story here, Peter Gregory goes grovelling back to twitter.

Twitter reversed the policy of banning mastodon links that prompted Graham to leave.

In any case, the real story is never the character of the messenger, which says nothing about the merit of the message.
