Ask HN: Anyone free to meetup in Tokyo on Xmas?

Hello, I'm a machine learning researcher who's here in Tokyo on exchange. Might anyone be interested to meet up for an interesting conversation over a meal on Christmas?

I am in the same situation. I am also a machine learning researcher who's here in Tokyo on exchange. If you want to meet up and chat tomorrow for Xmas let me know, just send me an email via ming.ang@riken.jp

If anyone’s near Lake Saint Louis Missouri (lord help you), feel free to come on over for a machine learning hackathon. I can spin up a tpu pod for you and train a classifier real fast.

Oh man, I wish I hadn’t let my in-laws borrow my car thinking I would have nothing to do. I’m in Columbia and have been solo’ing my machine-learning adventure.

Hit me up sometime! DM’s open on Twitter. Definitely happy to meet up.

I'm around for a few more days and would love to, send me an email at andreas@heider.io

If you're in Almaty, Kazakhstan, or somewhere nearby, let's grab a beer sometime: hey@ale.sh

Nice. Good vibes. Merry Xmas HN :0

Munich. Tomorrow 3 PM. Email in my profile for location. Probably walk in old town since the weather should be great.

Also try the HN Tokyo Slack group.

Oh are there other HN ($place) groups?

I'm curious too. Is there a HN Seoul group?

Or a Taipei group?

I'm staying in Taipei :)

I love Taipei :)

I'd second it, should we get started? :)

(Used to run various geek events in Taipei, it has been a while since doing it though, so timely to get back into it!)

Hey! we did 2 events in Taipei in 2022 w/ 30-40 ish people attending each time. We will try to keep it running regularly in 2023. Happy to join force if you want to help making it happen more regularly!

Absolutely. There is one meetup that meets every other week on Sunday, but it'd be good to have something else going.

Ha ha all the digital nomad spots popping up in this thread

+1 on wanting a HN Seoul group. If there isn't one, maybe we can make it

Now there’s two of you! Only one more and we’re to lots\many

Just want to also point out the fact that the person you're responding to is viceroy_____, and the person in the gif is Viceroy Nute Gunray.

Hey, added my email to my profile. Please shoot me a quick email if you're interested!

Interested

Yes! There is an unofficial list of them here: https://github.com/antontarasenko/hacker-news-groups

Would anyone be interested in a Medellin, Colombia group?

Wow, SF has an active Meetup group and a Facebook group? Impressed!

The website to get a Slack invite link (hntokyo.io) seems to be down.

[edit] The domain expired on Dec 9th.

Here's a temporary invite link in case anyone needs one: https://join.slack.com/t/hntokyo/shared_invite/zt-1me56squp-...

Yes! I'm the organizer and we will get the auto-invite domain back online at some point. Life has gotten in the way... Thank you for sharing the link in the meantime. You can also email me and I'll send an invite.

It's a friendly group of nerds and entrepreneurs. We'll do another in-person event as soon as we can! You can sign up on doorkeeper if you want an announcement email when it goes live: https://manage.doorkeeper.jp/groups/hntokyo

Hey, while I won’t be there for Xmas I will be there for New Year’s Eve. Hit me up on schmidp@schmidp.com if you want to hang out.

If anybody wants to chat/drink with a fellow hacker in Mumbai around christmas before ai head back to europe I’ll be more than happy - ikerin@gmail.com

I'll still be in Sao Paulo over the next few days.

I hope your meal will take place at KFC :)

I believe they have to be booked weeks in advance!

As someone who has plans with family this holiday, this thread still makes me happy to see. Been a while since I've seen a meetup thread on the parts of the internet I frequent.

Taiwan says hi too! Anyone keen in Taipei or northern Taiwan in general, happy to meet, on Monday, Tuesday (still sorta technically Xmas) or any time next week! gergely@imreh.net

Would have loved to run into you last week, when I took a solo trip across Asia and was feeling very lonely in Tokyo. Hope you find some friends and have a good time!

Venice, Italy - $hn_username at gmail

If someone's in Hamburg and wants to grab a beer, let me know: canolcer@hey.com (doesn't need to be today)

Brazil, São Paulo here

Bangkok, Thailand

I am going to move there in a month, will be glad to meet then.
