Is Honey Vegan?

The thing is: a bee colony would usually produce as much honey as it can, even more than it needs.
It is thus mostly fine to get it, as it wouldn’t be consumed anyway.
Also beekeeping involves taking not more honey than the colony needs, otherwise the colony would starve (and you can’t indefinitely get new colonies).
What is really problematic instead is an agricultural practice where a colony of bees is installed in a field that has undergone treatment with pesticides. The bees will do their job and pollinate the flowers, but will die shortly after from the pesticides.
Another cruel practice is the one where queen bees get mutilated from their “jaws” (for the lack of a more appropriate term, I’m not a native speaker of English) in order to force the existence of more than one queen bee per colony.
Such practice is illegal here in Italy and in some countries, but not everywhere.
Once again, “just not do x” (eating honey in this case) is the quick “solution” but also the dumb one. A better approach would be to actually learn something about the topic and promote/incentivise the best behaviour.
