They were rightfully blocked this time around because they tried to bypass debate by tacking it into an entirely unrelated bill.
And don't get me wrong, I am all for replacing the strongly politicized members of this court.
This was just the wrong way to go about doing it.
The reform was debated and passed by an ample majority in the lower house last week and was due to be approved with ease by the upper house on Thursday [1].
The opposition could have submitted their amendment proposal. they refused and went to court.
The right wing party has vetoed renovation for 3 years. Thereby extending the judges way beyond their initial term limits.

This is why following the right procedures is important.
And this is also why the quality of Spanish democracy is viewed as seriously low.
