Ask HN: Where can I learn AI?

8 points·hungpinch··11 comments

I am currently a CS student at University, I have been contemplating going into the realm of AI but I do not trust the recommendations of the internet. Where can I find reliable information or courses that will allow me to take the next step in AI development and use?

I would highly recommend "Neural Networks from Scratch". It will walk you through the code & theory at a granular level.

I appreciate this! thank you for the quick response.

I can recommend https://course.fast.ai/

+1 -- it's the best content out there. HuggingFace discord is a great community too!

Seems to be a popular and valid response. Thank you for the link as well.

Getting a minor (or double major!) in math or statistics would be helpful. I know it isn't the flashiest answer, but getting a solid foundation in math will be helpful in understanding what's going on behind the AI curtains. I think math has to be one of the hardest subjects to learn after graduation, so focusing on it now will pay big dividends.

This is a great idea! that would just mean a few more classes, thank you for the idea!

fastai is a no brainer. You can go into the nitty gritty later, but doing this course will let you see the power of AI and deep learning from the start.

Thank you! Checking it out during winter break!

Isn't at least some AI-related material a part of your upper-level course work at University?

It is! I would like to work on it before then and get a head start and get ready for senior projects.
