On the whole I've found utilitarian drives in the workplace very quickly degrade into "us and them" with some cohorts successful at ring-fencing themselves. The six Cobol literate greybeard in a banking context, generally don't get hassled because the risk is too high. I have rarely found the entire Csuite get on board and generally people who do external engagement wind up being allowed a bit of armani polish. Money tends to like it, even if it wants a view of worker bees in dungarees.
Musk may well find himself restoring the various Ikea ball room for grown-ups in due course.
But in a workplace climate with 20,000 former FAANG washing around like polystyrene debris in the canal estate.. maybe he has picked his time well.
If I were a union organiser I'd be leveraging these times but I'd also be rolling my eyes at the entitlement a little bit of the eames-deprived workers are voicing.
(For the record I'm non FAANG and my experiences are 90s dotcom boom-bust telco driven. The somersault from backing the formula1 car for logo placement to fighting to get a sun workstation upgrade approved)
