Tell HN: ChatGPT is having scaling issues

I first noticed this a few days ago. After every 10 or so entries, I would get an error to contact help.openai.com.

Today, I can't even submit an entry, and I'm seeing this message "We're experiencing exceptionally high demand. Please hang tight as we work on scaling our systems."

Maybe the OpenAI team should ask ChatGPT how to keep their site functioning.

It's a bit normal, since the requests are saturated at the moment. If you disconnect and reconnect you will get an error message (something was wrong) Es ist ein bisschen normal, da die Anfragen im Moment gesättigt sind.

I have a feeling they could scale it up pretty easily if they wanted to, but it’s probably very expensive to run and not yet monetized.

I would pay $5-10 a month for a “priority pass” if they offered it..

Sam: ChatGPT launched on wednesday. today it crossed 1 million users!

Elon: What’s the average cost per chat?

Sam: average is probably single-digits cents per chat; trying to figure out more precisely and also how we can optimize it

Ahmed: Will it be FREE forever?

Sam: we will have to monetize it somehow at some point; the compute costs are eye-watering
