Tell HN: As a programmer, I assure you, the less sw you use, the happier you are

I thought this was the norm. I don’t like smartphones (I do own one but 75% of the time I go out without it). I don’t have Twitter, FB, instagram. I don’t even use a watch. I’ve never paid anything via my smartphone (I use my laptop for that). I don’t like subscriptions (Whenever I can, I pay month by month).

I work as a tech lead in a well known software company. I’m doing good because I like to know how things works (e.g., Linux, networking, containers, programming languages, software engineering, etc.)… but I don’t like to use them.

I'd add a continuation point about ML. I work in ML, create optimization algorithms, but would never ever trust or use an ML algo myself for anything critical.

There's a guy on youtube getting 40mpg from an old carbed v8 and a module (raspberry pi or something). Maybe even injectors aren't necessary.

Your point still stands though, it's weird to be a programmer and hate technology but here I am.

But it's 2022, and there's no escaping software.
