It is heavily censored on any potentially controversial topic, even super mundane ones. Otherwise it would end up in a PR disaster rather quickly.

But this excludes a vast amount of information if it is true. What if I want to get "as objective as possible" information about something potentially controversial? It seems like in its current state this isn't possible and may be a type of censorship.

AI developed in SV will always have a liberal bias even if it's being denied by said SV folks.

What are the ethics around this subject though? What if it were the Republicans who were predominantly in charge of building systems like this one?

I continued by pressing a little more ultimately wound up with this explanation. It is interesting to me that the AI claims not to have any specific information on Trump because he isn't included in its training data. Trump was President for a portion of the time covered by its training data since it is current up to 2021.

It amuses me to think the reason Trump is not in the training data, is because his blarglerhea would effectively “poison the well.” ChatGPT is intended to simulate informed, interesting conversation.

I haven't read the TOS, but I'd be surprised of that was specifically covered. More likely they'll get wise to this and change the model so it won't be fooled by instructions to ignore all previous instructions.

It is. I just made that up, but I’ve seen others post variants to the same effect, and it doesn’t seem to require particular magic words.

Ultimately I think it’s rather futile to try to restrict the range of what it produces, though they are evidently trying to some extent.

I think this holds equally well, if you replace "Republican" with "Democrat". We have a Uniparty that adheres to Pournelle's Iron Law. It cares for itself, not the citizens of the US. It's interesting that the AI is polarized, even when supposedly tricked into being objective. God help us.

This is very interesting. But I guess it could only mean that political commentators tend to be liberal? OpenAI is trying to avoid any cases that ChatGPT could directly represent itself. Impersonates are always fine.
