And earlier today they committed the removal to the chromium repo.
Why did they only release this data a week before the change? It would have been nice if they gave people the chance to double-check their methodology. (Testing on an old version of chromium seems particularly weird.)
I guess they just didn't care what the rest of the community had to say.
