Hopefully his "bad month" becomes "a few bad years in jail" and we never have to hear him give another interview to pretend this fraud was just incompetence for some time.
It makes me wonder though - what's he thinking? How can he think these interviews are a good strategy? Is he an idiot, or does he have a really amazing plan?
He's trying to make jury selection difficult.
If it works, give the man an Oscar.
I'm very curious, wanna give us more information?
I think the idea is that anyone who’s seen his stupid interviews is a “tainted” juror, so if he’s tainted most potential jurors, it becomes more difficult to try him. Not sure how true this actually is
Would the person who downvoted me explain the reason? I don't understand the connection between doing stupid interviews and making jury selection difficult.
I think he's trying to convince people he's an idiot, ergo, not fraud. Nice try Mr. MIT Physics grad, minor math, 4-year Jane Street International ETF trader.
Should be life imprisonment really, not just a few bad years.
He didn't try to commit fraud, he just did it right away for real.
You say that like you've never accidentally committed fraud at the scale of a medium-sized country's GDP.
There is some speculation by S2 [1] that appear to be a probable reason this issue will eventually be forgotten by the public anyway. Probably not by the people that lost their money. I accept the possibility that this guy was naive, maybe a little arrogant and may have fit the psychological profile for a useful tool or fall-guy.
I wasted 1hr over ThanksGiving arguing about bc/crypto with an encon major. Man, I'd like that hour back. Let me conclude my sense of things this way: there's a great one-liner comic at scmp.com no less with a broke crypto guy begging for money on the street. His sign reads "...cash only please..." And the line under the comic reads "transparency for once"
Straight up fraud, had a code backdoor to funnel money from FTX to Alameda - which only he and his 3 cohorts knew of!
I expect him to be sentenced like Madoff, nothing less.
Either that or replace Yellen as secretary of the treasury.
Is there any law that prevents a prisoner from being secretary of the treasury?
Andrew Mellon's fault was he could be impeached. But with SBF as an honored guest I suppose he can pass anything.
