South Dakota bans TikTok access on state-owned devices citing ties to China

This seems entirely justified. Tiktok apparently shares more data than any other app (e.g. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/02/08/tiktok-shares-your-data-more... )

I am curious how close we are to a panopticon at this point. Tiktok could conceivably be argued to perfectly hack people's dopamine systems at this point although the same was said of instagram etc. in the past.

I'm surprised the state owned devices allow free app downloads though. That's a surprisingly more lax security policy than a lot of corporate laptops - but I've never had a company phone.
