Illegal hashes are the freedom of the past; Nowadays it is illegal to hold even a blank paper:

Not talking about China.

Welcome to the era of thoughtcrime.

Your statement appears to be a mischaracterization of the situation in the article. The person holding the paper was told he would be arrested if and only if he wrote a specific phrase on it.

Not that being arrested for holding a sign with a statement is any better, but it definitely was not "illegal to hold blank paper"

"police-arrest-[...]" is quite a URL slug for a headline that says "threatened with arrest"

Also the guy who was threatened with arrest had this to say

> "...But to be fair to the officer, he wasn’t threatening to arrest me for the blank paper, but if I wrote the words ‘not my King’ on it."

It is illegal to hold a blank paper (if you intended to say print out cp on it)

Even with MD5, while it is easy to find a hash collision -- it is really hard to find the plaintext which would be hashed into a specific hash value.

If I’m remembering correctly it is usually done by appending data to a format that can tolerate it?

Take a look at Tangler which takes this kind of ambiguity one step further: https://www.scs.stanford.edu/~dm/home/papers/waldman:tangler...
