Robots authorized to kill in SFPD draft policy

If there's a police officer trained in controlling and using the robot then there shouldn't be any qualms about it.
It's no different from a soldier controlling a UAV from across the world - just in this case I'd expect a lot more auditing and scrutiny if the tech's used domestically.
Huh, today I learned this makes people feel better about killing. What an interesting and diverse thought world we live in.
Officers often fire because their adrenaline is up and they can claim their safety was jeopardized, even when the victim turns out to be unarmed.
If the officer is controlling a robot that might offer the chance to take a second and figure out a guy is just holding a cellphone.
Also, we'd be recording exactly the view the officer made a decision based on. No "oh, my body cam failed", or "oh, it looked different on the scene."
The adrenaline argument is interesting. But conversely, if the intent is to de-escalate a situation, it's harder to establish trust via an armed machine.
Automated killing would be beyond the pale. Now THAT is the stuff of dystopian nightmares like Psycho Pass and Fahrenheit 451.
