Ask HN: What is .NET Orleans and who would use it?

Have been chatting with an iGaming developer who mentioned some of the game studios they were involved with used Microsoft .NET Orleans.

I've literally never heard of Orleans (except the city in France). Read up online and not super clear on what exactly it is or what it does or who would use it and what for.
