Now that temperatures have dropped enough, my entire neighborhood is completely polluted with smoke. If I walk outside for 5 minutes, I'll smell like a bonfire the rest of the day.

Fossil fuels seem less evil now? We need energy, heating is not optional.

This is not a bad thing. We are grassland creatures and we get rid of trees to make space for grass... much like elephants do. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/288395221_Why_do_el...

From grassland ecosystem perspective, trees are a disease that block sunlight from reaching the ground... and reduce biodiversity.

Surely that's an adaptation isn't it? Weren't we forest dwellers originally?

Walking upright is a grassland thing, and Humans are in no way adapted to arboreal life. If you look back at something like an Australopithecus (and maybe even as far back as Sahelanthropus - fossils are far from complete) they basically look like a chimp with a human set of legs. So it's been awhile.
