i rarely agree with libertarians, but this one article i read yesterday sounded reasonable -- in short, the super-high growth era of high tech is over:

it reminds a bit of what some physics-knowledgeable people are saying -- modern day physics is basically at a natural human limit of sorts -- progress is going to be very slow from here on out.
i think there are all sorts of fun and awesome tech things we can do, but for various reasons - state capitalism/war/US hegemony, and others - we choose not to do them. instead, we do war tech, and the VCs are left to figure out which publicly-developed technologies they can most effectively privatize for profit - thus, largely useless, at best, tech like 'web3'.
