The digital euro may have spending limits

Aah... "digital money"... it's a trap. Avoid it. If you don't control your money, you don't really own it.

Keep the cash. Governments all around the world are taking steps to eliminate every inch of freedom people have. They are trying to turn everyone into slaves. You either do what we tell you, the way we tell you, or you starve.

Now imagine tying that to the EU's social media regulations, which are designed to "protect European users from hate speech, disinformation and other harmful online content"[0]. Suddenly there would be a lot of pressure for people to conform, and not support any fringe views, like the view that such powers could be abused.

Maybe all the problems with crypto will give ordinary people pause before trusting digital money, even if it comes from central banks. One can always hope.
