I guess it's Tracker Weeks at Hacker News? :) (MilkyTracker reached the front page just a few days ago)

OpenMPT has been my most extensive spare time project for the last 14 years. Excited to see it on the front page!

Thanks again for all your work, Sagamusix!

You're welcome :)

Love this program. It's by far the most comfortable tracker, frankly I'm not sure how anyone uses anything else :)

Thanks, keeping the program comfortable and intuitive (as far as that's possible with trackers) is definitely one of my goals.

I just started learning OpenMPT earlier this week together with my daughter, really seems to be the easiest around! Thankyou :-)

That's great to hear! Have fun, both of you!

And it wouldn't still be around if not for your incredible efforts -- not only on the software issue, but also on the OpenMPT community.

OpenMPT is not very "leet" in chiptune screen because it's approachable and easy to use.

In 2012 a new artist named Fearofdark released his first album Motorway and it absolutely blew everyone away. This was a pro-level album made by an apparent beginner.

It soon came out that this wasn't actually even a "chiptune" album made with a proper tracker manipulating a programmable sound generator chip, it was actually made in OpenMPT with chiptune samples. A total noob move.

It was a scandal.

I loved this because it shows if you have true talent, you can use any tool to make a masterpiece. It didn't detract from my enjoyment of the album at all. Maybe even increased it.

Enjoy the original album here: https://archive.org/details/UBI055

Or he did a remaster last year: https://fearofdark.bandcamp.com/album/motorway-remastered-20...

I’m a big fan of OpenMPT, it’s the closest thing to a modern Impulse Tracker I’ve found (or at least that I’ve “clicked” with). I’m a life-long casual when it comes to music making and don’t feel the need to go and learn big modern DAWs so OpenMPT is absolutely perfect for me. A+++ would download again.

This is nostalgic, I spent countless hours in MPT as a kid. I moved on to sequencers around 10 years ago, but I remember trackers fondly, making music felt a bit like coding.

Ditto. My parents thought MPT looked a bit like a spreadsheet, from memory.

Any good trackers based on Web Audio API? Best if open source and works offline

A similar question was asked in the milkytracker thread too! Check out BassoonTracker. https://github.com/steffest/BassoonTracker

Ok what about this: any good tracker for Mobile?

Not a big user of trackers, even more so nowadays. And never on a mobile device. But I liked SunVox when I tried it.

It's free proprietary software from Russia, so take that into consideration.

Still using MPT to this day! And opensourcing my soundtracks too )
