Let's go take a look at a title on WorldCat

I was dismayed by what's happened to the WC site recently - regardless of why, it's gone from very useful to useless. EG its integration with Wikipedia's ISBNs is now worthless.

It turns out that online union library catalogue Worldcat is now sending bibliographic search trackers to the usual Surveillance Capitalist suspects.

Note that Worldcat provides catalogue services to numerous other institutions and libraries, including those which previously maintained their own systems. For example, the University of California's Melvyl catalogue now redirects to Worldcat:

<http://melvyl.cdlib.org/>

This means that academic search histories are now being compiled by Facebook and Google Analytics.
