In my opinion, there is a huge incentive for large firms to buy rather than build right now, given the go-to-market risks with any new product launch. Externalizing that risk into VC funded firms and then paying for winners is a smart choice.
But sadly the result often is that consumers have to eat the inevitable decline in product quality post-acquisition.
Didn't know PenPot exists.
Hope it takes off. Importing Figma files would help drive adoptions, but it feels like a long way off.
