Reddit begins to force users to use app on mobile

An admin has responded. It's predictably a non-answer.

I can't stand PR language anymore. Have we collectively forgotten how to speak like humans? Is there no business value to straight talk?

Reddit seems hell-bent on making me not want to use it. It's working. I went from always have reddit open in one tab to ignoring it for days without trying. My visits are much shorter, and I contribute much less. Perhaps I'm not the sort of user they're looking for anymore.

Both the official mobile app and the new website are horrible. If I couldn't use Apollo to access Reddit on my devices, or if they cancel availability of the old website, I'm done with that site. The content isn't valuable enough for me to suffer through their first party UIs, no matter what their KPIs say.

Thankfully, unofficial apps still work. I use relay on Android - it's a great app and one of my favorite Android apps. It will be a sad day when/if reddit gimps their public api and breaks these apps.

“How shall we delight our users today?” “Through force?” “Tell me more?” “We force them to do something they don’t want to do!”

“Brilliant! Everyone loves to be forced to do things they don’t want to do. We shall do That!”
