These new definitions fly in the face of the platform engineering definition I saw used in industry circa 2015, which was "software engineering concerning the layers between the firmware and the user space code, including the OS and other modules." I also saw competing definitions akin to "we build non-customer facing services that run on the product with which feature teams build their customer facing features."
