Dangerous trend. Soviet Union fell apart when due to Gorby's anti-alcohol program, people saw the country they lived in with the sober eyes for the first time...

Hot take, but if people making the personal decision to abstain from drinking what is essentially poison, causes society to collapse, things are irreversibly broken, IMO.

How dangerous?

A non-zero number of people have died drinking water, eating, or taking a shit. Just saying something is dangerous is banal and does nothing to amplify the discussion.

My gut feel is this has to do with the large increase we’ve seen in marijuana usage.

There was a recent study rolling up the previous studies of alcohol and health. It painted a pretty damning picture of the negative health effects of drinking.

Tl:dr the safe number of drinks per day is probably zero. The safe number of drinks per week might be two.

I suspect we’re starting to catch on to the fact that it’s super bad for heath, much the same way we did with smoking.

We have actually known this for a long time but the alcohol industry love to fund studies and reports that say dumb shit like wine is good for your heart
