Apple’s new iPad only supports the old Apple Pencil – needs an adapter to do so

That is so unAppley that I clicked on the article to find out how much I had misread the headline. Nope, read the headline correctly. Well, then, The Verge has gotten something horribly, horribly wrong. Because does this sound right to you? That a new iPad model only supports an old model of Pencil that you thought they didn't even manufacture anymore, and it needs an adapter to do so? I mean, c'mon, there's no way Apple would do something like that.

So why does it support a gen1 pencil but not a gen2 pencil?

I'd say Apples use of dongles are a joke at this point, but perhaps the data suggests the number of base model ipads using a (gen1) pencil are small enough to warrant the dongle crutch.

That’s incredible. I’d love to know how they came to the conclusion that this was the way to go.
