The CLI complaints, while relatable, are pretty minor. It seems they believe shell scripting is a dirty hack. But in that case, why not just write a clean program to pull the values in the form they want from the API or SDK?

Part of my evolution with regard to Single Responsibility Principle has been to start exposing command lines for some modules. It makes it a lot easier to write integration tests for one, but it also helps people know the interaction boundaries of a particular module. Because if they aren’t in the dependency list, either the program doesn’t work or it doesn’t talk to that code. It’s also a lovely bit of friction to Kitchen Sink Syndrome, because it’s just that little extra pain in the ass to cross link everything to everything instead of gating it through nexus modules versus leaf modules.

The CLIs usually stay as debugging tools, but in some cases they have gotten incorporated into more complex tools, such as to add more hints and hyperlinks to out deployment management tools.

I dunno. There's nice CLI interfaces and there's one's that make things annoyingly hard to do. I haven't used firebase ever but I have had that problem before.
