this sort of pre-emptive PR crap by financial institutions and payment processors is going to backfire.

Kanye is having an episode, so it might not be this go around but this sort of thing is going to wind up getting regulated hard.

Kanye has made a lot of good points regarding BLM enriching its creators and ruining poor neighbourhoods (which is true despite it being considered ‘wrong think’ by some), but recently Kanye went on racist rants about Jews both on social media and in a Fox News interview which are less ‘wrongthink’ and just plain racist.

Since Jews can refer to people who's religion is Judaism, I'm not sure it is racist. He'd have to specifically target people based on origin to be racist.

Yes Jews (like Druze / Yazidi people) are an ethno-religious group - but do you think Kanye is targeting them based upon their religious beliefs, as if there’s some controversial aspect of Judaism that he doesn’t agree with? This seems far fetched.

Likely the latter, being that there are many misunderstood components of the Torah and other teachings and no shortage of ultra-orthodox rabbis willing to say crazy things. Almost every popular Hollywood comedy also makes some Jewish reference and joke by a Jewish actor because it is known.

Kanye is complaining about being uncomfortable with music producers based upon their being Jewish and saying he’s ”death con 5 (sic) on Jews”.

Kanye’s not discussing ultra orthodox habits or genital mutilation or any other aspect of religion. From what we’ve seen, nobody was discussing religion, it’s just racism.

The misconception about Jews controlling money has everything to do with the religious teachings, and nothing to do with their origin.

It's a result of antisemitism - Jews weren't allowed to participate in most trades (or have building on streets for example, like here in London), so money lending was one of the few roles available. I've never heard religious teaching barring Jewish people from other trades.

And people that think Christians are lying hypocrites are anti-Christian. I'm not sure why people want the word antisemitism to have special treatment vs disdain for any other religion.

Most banks, and all the big ones I know about, have some level of on-line social media presence and dedicated social media managers (and wildly varying levels of competence with social media). As they say, 'that's where the customers are'.

The financial I work for has official channels on most platforms and dedicated teams who do basically advertising and customer support type stuff via social media channels. Complain about something on @OfficalBankChannel, and someone can see it and hopefully respond positively. This isn't just some random employees slacking off on Instagram or twitter or whatever; it's their job.

So if the bank perceives someone is threatening people over a social media channel, it can be treated the same as someone threatening over the phone to a call center or in a branch location. And there can be consequences.

I don't think the Truckers were calling for "death con 3" on Jews however. Banks can choose who they do business with and always have.

3. Honestly, the truckers got what they deserved too. The truckers were disrupting traffic and causing a nuisance to citizens with whom they had no quarrel. In reality. Kanye on the other hand, well, to quote Dave Chappelle: “Twitter’s not a real place.”

Banks are highly regulated. I doubt they could refuse business to black people.

I guess we disagree here on this. I don't think it was due to racism because in context he was hinting about Jewish influence in the industry which IMO has more to do with the religion than where they are from.

Kanye did do that, that is likely the reason JPM closed his accounts. I think the person you’re speaking with thought you knew that and were comparing the truckers protesting to that.

I don’t think it’s a good idea that banks can fire their customers on a whim.

Why not? They’re private companies. Just like Facebook and Twitter and PayPal and CloudFlare.

Customers can withdraw all their funds and close their accounts on a whim also.

Again... Jews are not a race unless specifically directed towards those people originating from a specific region. Jews refers to people practicing Judaism. If you're suggesting Judaism prevents people from other races, then in fact that would be racist.

My understanding is that you realise Jews are an ethno-religious group, but you believe criticism of Jews is generally based around religious ideas rather than race.

My belief is that unless religious law is specifically mentioned the simplest case - racism - is the most likely reason. Occam's razor and all.

What about people who publicly oppose return to office in nyc or support Occupy Wall Street 2.0? Are you proposing a special exception for racists, or that they should be able to fire any customer whose speech is offensive to the Bank?

I’m in favor of a state owned bank of last resort. Private banks can do whatever they want, but some secure way to store funds is a human right.
