Ask HN: What Happened to Wikiless.org?

5 pointsqwikiless3 comments

I have been using this site with PrivacyRedirect to browse Wikipedia articles without the regular annoyances on wikipedia.org.

Today, the address resolves, but the server does not seem to respond, and the site does not load.

Also, the repo for the project's code is gone from codeberg:

https://codeberg.org/orenom/wikiless

Does anyone know what's going on with it?

Update: I found this information by following the developer's homepage link from codeberg:

https://orenom.fi/

>[ Wed, Oct 5 ] - Wikiless has been taken down from Codeberg

>I don't have any other information just yet. I don't know if this is temporary or permanent. Only information I can see in the repository right now: "[Please wait for instructions from Codeberg Moderation]".

>Update: Wikimedia Legal Enforcement team has contacted Codeberg - the repository has been made private (only contributors will be able to access the repo for now). According to Codeberg, they will keep me updated on what happens next.

Got nuked most likely. Sad

I know a guy, great guy, best guy I ever met. He could nuke wikiless.org better than anybody. And let me tell you something, when I heard that there was a nuking, I said to myself, "I will be phenomenal to the wikis. I mean, I want to help wikis". Mark my words.
