I thought that was a good idea? Why isn't it so? What should be the alternative?

Tools outputting JSON or, even better, anything that has stronger types than it.

`jc` is trying to parse some UNIX tools' output and turn it into JSON but that's a hack (though a very useful one).

We shouldn't still be parsing plain text in 2100. Tools must speak a common language.

Having some structure like power shell would be really nice.

Oilshell probably a better fit. Also a guy putting json in most commands.

i love and use fish, but it doesn't solve the problem of everything is text. it's not even a shell problem in my view but it's really a problem of what kind of data is piped from one command to the next. that's quite shell-agnostic

Fully possible to set login shell to powershell on Linux. Wouldn’t recommend it, but it’s an option.
